Christ the King Parish began in the 1880's as mission outpost of Holy Family Parish in the vicinity of Sugar Plantation with only few houses. In 1924 no more than 60 Catholics living within the parish of Christ the King, Kahului. Maui.
Early Missionaries of sacred Heart fathers established this parish. In 1932, Oct. 30 on the Feast of Christ the King the Church was blessed by Bishop Stephen Alancastre. In 1958 the first building for school was built and later that became Christ the King School . School was staffed by Sisters of St: Joseph of Carondolet. By 1966, the parish Had 700 Catholic Families as the workers for Sugar and Pineapple plantations started to come in from the Philippines, the parish started to grow.
The new Rectory was built in 1967. The church was enlarged in the shape of a Cross and blessed by Bishop John J. Scanlan on April, 12, 1981.On January 20, 1989, the Church dedicated as the service of Sacred Fathers came to close with the departure of Fr. Joseph Hendricks SSCC. and Diocesan priest by the name of Fr. Gary Colton took over the Parish.
In 2004, July 1, the Missionaries of our Lady of La Salette took over. The first pastor Was Fr. Effren Thomas. M.S. Today Christ the King Parish grown into one of the biggest parish in the Diocese with Filipino Community. This year 2022, Christ the Church celebrates 90th Anniversary.
